Victim Fights for DNA Funding
Here's a compelling story for an in-class activity or research assignment. Can one person, in this case the mother of a 6 year old victim, make an impact on the Criminal Justice System? The mother of a young murder victim is upset that DNA evidence in her daughter's case is still sitting on the shelf and she is turning her anger into action - going to the governor to ask for more money to fund crime labs. The full story can be found here.

Internships and Job Placement

Many students know their career path when they enter college, and others do not. Here a couple of tips faculty members have forwarded to us where students may be able to find an internship, part-time employment or a career opportunity.

ASIS International was founded in 1955 as the American Society for Industrial Security, and officially changed its name in 2002. This new name reflects the growth and expansion of the society to more than 35,000 members around the world, covering a wide array of services and specialties within the security industry. Local ASIS Chapters hold regularly scheduled meetings, which may provide an opportunity for a field trip or extra credit assignment. ASIS members may also be available as guest speakers. Many states have a private investigators association. For example the California Association of Licensed Investigators is the largest private investigator association in the world. Local chapters have regularly scheduled meetings, which just like ASIS meetings, would be a great opportunity for students to meet professional practitioners.

If you have suggestions and tips to help other faculty members, please let us know so we may share them in future QWIK e-News editions.
