Author Dennis Potter Participates in School
Violence Symposium
Three separate school
shootings took place in Colorado, Wisconsin and
Pennsylvania during the last week of September.
These shootings all resulted in fatalities.
President Bush, joined by Attorney General Alberto R.
Gonzales and Education Secretary Margaret
Spellings, has called for parents and communities to
take responsibility for ensuring school safety.
Metropolitan State University of Denver
hosted a
panel discussion on the impact this violence has on
the larger community as well as explored school
safety issues across the board. Dennis Potter, co-
author of Law Enforcement Incident Command and
Criminal Justice Professor, was one of the featured
panel members.
Dennis recently retired as a Captain from the
Jefferson County (CO) Sheriff’s Department, and was
the Headquarters Supervisor and Operations Chief at
the Columbine High School shooting. He is a critical

Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies

(NWCG), the National Incident Management System
(NIMS) and New York State Office of Criminal Justice.
